Prior to joining the faculty at CalArts, Ed Groff was Assistant Director of the Jon Sims Center for the Performing Arts, a theater and producing organization in San Francisco. Groff served as the Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Modern Dance at the University of Utah from 1997 to 2000. Previously he was a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Dance at Temple University, Philadelphia. He has served on the faculties of Hampshire College, Connecticut College, Tufts University, and the Evergreen State College. His choreography has been presented at the Kennedy Center (Washington, D.C.) the Annenberg Center, Movement Theater International and ARTSBAND (Philadelphia), the Hancock Theater (Boston), Symphony Space Theater (New York), Fleet Center (Providence), Crown Theater (Taipei, Taiwan), Rotterdam Dansacademie (Rotterdam, Holland), Tanzfabrik (Berlin, Germany), and at colleges and universities nationwide. Groff is also a Certified Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analyst. His scholarship in the history and philosophy of Rudolf Laban has appeared in several national and international journals and been presented at conferences throughout the United States and in Berlin, Lausanne, Tokyo and Taipei. He received his MFA degree from Connecticut College in 1990.
