Maija Burnett is the Associate Director of the Character Animation program at California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), where her duties include teaching classes, assisting with the administration of the program, mentoring students, and coordinating weekly guest lectures by visiting artists from the film and animation industry. Maija's classes include Animation and 'the Body,' Surfing the Web: Theorizing Art and Animation on the Internet and Flash (in which students create short animated webisodes). She has represented CalArts at various international events, including as a short film jury member at SICAF (Seoul International Cartoon and Animation Festival, 2010), and panelist at SIGGRAPH (Vancouver, 2011). Originally from Montreal, Canada, Maija obtained an M.F.A. in Animation from UCLA, as well as a B.A. and M.A. from McGill University in Film Studies. Her hand-drawn film Bubble (2005) screened at festivals across the U.S. and Canada, and she has worked on several animated feature films, including Curious George, Garfield: a Tail of Two Kitties and Shane Acker's 9.
