Jela became a CalArtian in 2013, when she moved from Seattle to begin her MFA degree in Instrumental Arts. While at CalArts, Jela developed an interdisciplinary creative practice through performance, composition, and visual art. As both an artist and musician, Jela's creative practice explores the connections between the visual and sonic world and the inclusivity of all artistic mediums. Jela's inspiration for her artistic practice is rooted in observing the nature of our human reality through philosophy, psychology, meditation and spiritual practice. When she is away from the studio and office, she carries her practice with her while meditating on mountain tops, reading, running, swinging at the playground, scavenging for vintage toys, vegan cooking and living each day as if the world is brand new!
