Sam Stahl earned her BFA from CalArts in 2018. As a teaching artist, Sam developed a deep love for pedagogy in tandem to her studio practice. She often draws inspiration from her students’ intuitive and free use of material, color and line. She mimics these investigations by bringing elements of translation and play into the studio to create modular installations, idiosyncratic mark making instruments, and collections of drawings. Overall, she enjoys the whimsical and dynamic nature of her work, and brings it into all aspects of life. When she’s not working, she can be found playing string instruments, collecting house plants, and chasing her outdoor cats.
