Allison Smartt is a sound engineer, designer, producer, and educator for theater and dance. Her designs have been seen and heard at La MaMa, The Yard, Arts In Odd Places Festival, Barrington Stage Company, the Five College Consortium, and more. She recently relocated to Los Angeles from Western Massachusetts.
Allison is the owner of Smartt Productions, a production company which develops and tours innovative performances about social justice. Its repertory includes the nationally acclaimed solo-show about reproductive rights, MOM BABY GOD, and the empowering, new hip-hop theatre performance, Mixed-Race Mixtape. Her productions have toured to over 16 cities (and counting) around the U.S.
Allison has been a member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) since 2013. She is an alumna of Hampshire College, where they don't have majors – thus her Bachelor of Arts degree is in Immersive, Design Driven Performance. Prior to joining the CalArts community, she was Technical Director for the Mount Holyoke College Dance Department and Associate Production Manager at Jacob's Pillow.
