Head of Sound Design
Jon Gottlieb, (Head of Sound Designer and Director of Summer Programs) a Los Angeles-based artist, has designed the sound for the last 5 seasons of LA Opera/Education at the COLA. He most recently designed the sound for Master Class with Tyne Daily at the Vaudeville Theatre in London as well as productions at Manhattan Theater Club on Broadway and the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Locally his recent designs include Parfumerie at the Wallis Annenberg Center in Beverly Hills as well as 12 Angry Men and Smokey Joe’s Café at The Pasadena Playhouse. He has been heard regionally, internationally and on and off- Broadway. Other recent Broadway credits include QED with Alan Alda at Lincoln Center, Neil Simon’s Dinner Party at the Music Box and Terrence McNally’s Tony award-winning Master Class, starring Zoe Caldwell at the Golden Theater. During his fifteen year tenure as resident sound designer for Center Theater Group his designs included Taper productions of iWitness (LA Drama Critics Circle Award), The Flower Drum Song (Ovation Award) and Hughie with Al Pacino. His recent design work at the Geffen Playhouse includes: Equivocation and George Gershwin, Alone (2007 Ovation Award). Jon has received eight LADCC Awards, three LA Theater Alliance Ovation Awards, over 60 Drama-Logue, L.A. Weekly and NAACP Theater awards. Jon is a member of the National Theater Conference and United Scenic Artists local 829. He serves as Head of the Sound Design program for the School of Theater at the California Institute of the Arts and for Disney Imagineering, he created original sound effects and design for two attractions at Walt Disney World in Florida.
