Sekou Bunch is an electric and double bass player. He is also a studio musician for film, touring and professional recordings, as well as a music educator. He has toured the world and recorded with many major artists such as; Michael Jackson, George Benson, Quincy Jones, Lionel Richie, Wayne Shorter, Anita Baker, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Roger Daltry, Ana Gabriel, Vikki Carr, Paul Anka, Liza Minelli and many others. His musical career spans over four decades. He has performed the electric bass for the Broadway musical Dreamgirls and played double bass with Occidental College, Glendale Community College, and Pasadena Community orchestras.
Sekou has received multiple Gold and Platinum awards as well as Grammy nominations for his work with many artists. In addition, Sekou has also received the Honorary Doctorate in Theology from “Next Dimension University” in Sacred Music.
In addition, he has taught the electric bass for more than 30 years doing master classes, private lessons and clinics throughout the United States. He has taught at Cal Poly, Citrus College, LAMA, Columbus Jazz Academy, (through the Columbus Jazz Arts Group) and Musicians Institute.
Sekou is also well known for his electric bass design SB4000 and SB5000 electric basses, winner of the NAMM 2011 Best of Show. Sekou has recently joined the faculty at California Institute of the Arts and has a passion for sharing his musical gifts and knowledge to all aspiring musicians.
