Abigail Whitman is an LA-based performer-composer, improviser and Alexander Technique teacher, with a specialization in classical and experimental vocal techniques. Their artistic practice centers around the voice as a whole body instrument, exploring how to blend the traditions of classical vocal music with experimental voice practices. Abigail has performed internationally in works such as Le Nozze di Figaro (Susanna), Eugene Onegin, and Dialogues des Carmélites. They have premiered works and had their own works premiered as part of festivals such as NEO Voice Festival, Dogstar Orchestra, and New Music on the Point. Their opera, Why We March, explores themes of gender discrimination and protest through an improvisatory method that provides space for individual voices and stories in the face of oppression in a patriarchal society.

They are the vocalist in improvisational duo Mystic Elevator, alongside Jack Herscowitz (electronics). The duo has performed at various venues along the west coast including 2220 Arts and Archives with Praxinoscope, Beyond Baroque, Automata, EDME Festival, soundpedro, First Congregational Church of Los Angeles, and have been featured on the Watt from Pedro Show hosted by Mike Watt. Abigail received their Bachelors of Music and Alexander Technique Teaching Certificate from Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and their Masters of Fine Arts from CalArts.
