Stuart Frolick
Since joining CalArts in 2005, Stuart Frolick has written for and edited a wide range of The Institute’s print publications–recruitment catalogs, ad- vancement collateral, and alumni magazines including Happenings, CalArts magazine, and The Pool. He also produces video interviews with students, faculty, and visiting artists. Frolick was born and raised in New York and graduated from Ithaca College with a degree in philosophy. He began his career at Champion International, where he wrote for and edited The Champion Magazine, 1976-1981. As vice president-creative director at Art Center College of Design, 1987-2001, Frolick led the college’s multi-award- winning design office, and served as senior writer-editor on ArtCenter’s many recruitment, advancement, and alumni publications. From 1985-2005 Frolick was a contributing editor to Graphis magazine, for which he wrote profiles of creative professionals including graphic designers, art directors, and photographers. Since 2012 he has written about photographers and their work for Black & White magazine. An exhibited artist, Frolick’s photo- graphs, drawings, and collages have appeared in Idea magazine, Details, American Illustration 14, and Black & White.
