Carl M. Burgin is an electronic musician and creative technologist, and currently serves as faculty at California Institute of the Arts. Under the moniker Sahy Uhns, Carl’s work focuses on blurring the line between acoustic and synthetic timbre and genre bending with a grounding in rhythm. Carl creates his music with the help of his custom software, interfaces and mechatronic instruments. In addition to his own productions, Carl is a founder and manager of Proximal Records, a label focused on promoting the rich sounds of Los Angeles and beyond. Carl received his BFA and MFA from the Music Technology department at California Institute of the Arts. His masters thesis focuses on creating mechatronic instruments with the intension to explore the inherent musical potential of recycled electro-mechanical devices (i.e. relays, motors, etc.). Carl is now proud to be continuing his involvement in the community as an instructor. Carl is currently working to further develop the Machine Orchestra with new and creative mechatronic instruments as well as teaching synthesis using Native Instruments Reaktor.
