Michael Manfredo was recently brought on as Tai Chi Chuan (Taijiquan) Instructor in the School of Theater at the California Institute of the Arts. Michael has been serving as one of the leading instructors of Taijiquan at Chen Bing Taiji Academy USA based out of Los Angeles, CA.
Chen Bing Taiji Academy was established by Master Chen Bing who is a 20th generation representative of Chen Family Taijiquan. Its headquarters is located in Chenjiagou, China - the birth place of Taijiquan. Master Chen Bing is a direct descendant of Chen Wangting, the creator of Taijiquan.
Chen Bing Taiji Academy USA is the only Chen Family Taijiquan academy in the United States certified by Master Chen Bing and the Chen Village Marital Arts Association. Furthermore, Chen Bing Taiji Academy USA is run by Master Bosco Baek who is the Chenjiagou Intangible Cultural Chen Family Taijiquan Excellent Successor of Chen Family Taijiquan.
Michael Manfredo is one of Master Bosco Baek’s disciples. He has been serving as both primary instructor of Chen Family Taiji as well as the Head Instructor of Ekatala Yoga. His Ekatala Yoga background, which includes Yoga postures, Yoga breathing, Yoga meditation and Yoga Spine Therapy compliments his Tai Chi practice and teaching - especially in dealing with the alignment of the body in relation to specific injuries, ailments, body types and many more specifics that arise from teaching a diverse group of students in age, background and body type.
Prior to becoming an instructor and practitioner at Chen Bing Taiji Academy USA, Michael previously studied Yang Style Taiji and was awarded black belt at his previous institution. However, being curious about the original Taiji Practice taught at Chen Bing Tai Chi Academy, Michael discovered the importance of an authentic teaching and lineage and the great difference in the positive effects and power in the practice. Without hesitation, Michael changed his Taiji practice to learn the art in it’s pure form at Chen Bing Taiji Academy. Michael is now dedicated to teaching others with the same passion and authenticity that was shared and taught to him.
Prior to becoming a full time teacher, Michael was a part time teacher in Tai Chi, Qi Qong and Yoga. During his part time teaching career, Michael served a variety of roles in the television industry as production manager, videographer, location sound mixer and editor. Michael graduated with a degree in the “Visual and Media Arts” at Emerson College in Boston. It was in this time in College, Michael first practiced Yoga and soon discovered Taiji. It has now been 10 years teaching Taiji and Yoga and there is not a day he doesn’t love to practice and share with others.
