As a gifted solo recitalist and ensemble performer, harpsichordist PATRICIA MABEE has been hailed regularly by audiences and critics for her virtuosity, flawless technique, and outstanding performances. She has been featured frequently as a soloist with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, where she has been Principal Keyboardist since 1976, and has appeared as guest soloist in more than 20 works from the concerto repertoire under the baton of such celebrated conductors as Christopher Hogwood, Nicholas McGegan, Neville Marriner, Harry Bicket, Helmuth Rilling, Iona Brown, and Cristof Perick. Her career as an ensemble player is equally distinguished, marked by regular appearances at many music festivals including the Casals Festival, Oregon Bach Festival, Chamber Music Northwest, Ojai Festival, and the Los Angeles Bach Festival. Her versatility in both early music performance practices, including accompaniment from figured bass, and contemporary music techniques puts her in high demand as both performer and educator. Musical director for the period instrument ensemble, Ritornello, she has developed programs and lecture demonstrations for schools and museums. Also, she has championed the use of early keyboards in contemporary composition premiering many works written for her. Ms. Mabee has recorded for Angel, Nonesuch, Delos, Telarc and Verve recording companies and can be heard on many film soundtracks.
Currently teaching at CalArts and the Colburn Conservatory of Music, Ms. Mabee also maintains a multi-keyboard studio for private students.
Her two sons, Oliver and Aaron, enjoy their musical careers in popular music as producers, songwriters and multi-instrumentalists.
