Julanne Chidi Hill

For over a decade, Julanne Chidi Hill has taught acting, speech, and devised theatre, and has brought Shakespeare to classrooms. She has also provided training and workshops to teachers and institutions throughout the Pasadena and L.A. Unified School Districts. And she is a professional acting coach specializing in audition technique.

As an actor, Julanne performed internationally with Scotland’s Tony Award winning theatre company, Visible Fictions. And she performed in numerous acclaimed theatre productions, including August Wilson’s Fences (directed by Wren Troy Brown), Lily Tomlin’s and Jane Wagner’s The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe: Revisited (LGBT Center Davidson/Valentini Theatre), The Odyssey (directed by Mary Zimmerman), Charles Busch’s Die, Mommy, Die! (Kirk Douglas Theatre, directed by Ryan Bergman), the U.S. premiere of Athol Fugard’s Blue Iris, and the Ovation Award winning Women of Brewster Place (directed by Micheal Matthews). Julanne received a Stage Raw Award for Best Female Comedy Performance for her work in Bootycandy (Celebration Theatre), and received both an L.A. Weekly Theater Award for Supporting Female Performance and an LA Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Ensemble for her work in We Are Proud to Present a Presentation About the Herero of Namibia... (Matrix Theatre). She has also been nominated for three Broadway World Awards, has appeared in several feature films, and has had recurring roles in television shows on CBS, Showtime, Netflix, and others.

Recently, Julanne performed with A Noise Within theatre company, and had the opportunity to perform in a VR/AR project for Intel (directed by Peter Flaherty). Next, she will perform in Sty of the Blind Pig at the Ebony Repertory Theatre.

Julanne has a B.F.A. from SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Theatre Arts and Film. She was classically trained at Oxford with John Barton (Royal Shakespeare Company) and Katie Mitchell (Royal National Theatre).
